I finally had a chance to catch up on some of the shows that have been languishing on my TiVo.

Life on Mars
[livejournal.com profile] obelix is right; this is truly a wonderful series: tragic, comic and beautiful. I wasn't born in '73, so I don't have actual memories to compare to, but the characters look just like old family photos. It is fascinating to watch an illumination of just how much life has changed in 35 years, of how much we take for granted (and, helpfully, to see it through the eyes of someone similarly shocked). It probably has more resonance for Brits, but it's still a romp. I'm not sure where they're going, but I'm enjoying the ride.

Doctor Who (Eccleston)
Bit touchy-feely, this incarnation. The Sixth Doctor should pop in and deliver a severe ass kicking. And Rose, good grief! The wife-beater tee, the black eyebrows and peroxide hair. Standards for companionship have fallen. At least they kept the ghetto special effects.

Eureka
Yawn.

I am right sometimes, not often mind you but sometimes ;-) Glad you liked it!

There is going to be a second series sometime in January and I really wonder where they are going to go with it.

I kind of liked the Eccleston Dr. Who but he is different and yes Rose could go away anytime now ;-)

Tried one episode of Eureka and just couldn't get into it. To me it felt like a bad crossover between The Prisoner and X-Files with a bit of Twilight Zone thrown in for good measure and since I never particularly liked any of those *shrug*

I felt the same way about the pilot. I had trouble staying awake, and I definitely had trouble caring about the characters. I'm going to try another couple of eps, but...

Wow, deja vu...sorta. Just today I'd been wondering why TiVo never picks up any BBC America shows for me. Right before dinner I scrolled through the upcoming BBCA's weeks schedule and gave thumbs up to appropriate shows and decided to record of few episodes of Life on Mars with no idea of what it's about. Just sounded like an interesting title for a crime mystery. Then checked today's journal only to see your comments. I look forward to the Mars mini-marathon next week.

On the other hand, Eccleston is my first Who and I enjoyed him quite a bit. Sorry to see him go, but I do like Dr. Barty Crouch Jr. Who. He has a great outfit. I hope the personality is as good.

Eureka...we're giving it a few weeks to see what happens.

Yeah, I'm waiting on Eureka, too. *shrugs* Need something to fill in the time until fall! :)

I was thinking that Billie must be attempting to revive her pop career.

I watched 2 Dr. Who episodes on the plane last night.

Heathrow is a hell hole.

Yikes! I didn't know you were travelling. Are you home now, or still abroad?

I am home. It will be a while before I bother to fly again and an even longer time to fly internationally.

I think Heathrow's problems were largely a labor action. All the other airports only needed a day to get their act together. It was just Heathrow.
