The Time of the Angels

I quite enjoyed that!
I'm not 100% sold on Matt Smith as the Doctor, yet. I like that he's playing things down more than Tennant. I like that, apparently, he's a spaz. I even like the bow tie. I don't mind that he's flying the TARDIS all wrong (I think we've had this confirmed multiple times in canon, so it's just one more nod, for me). But he's still got that new car smell on him, and I'm just not sure this model will ever be my favorite (that doesn't mean he won't be good, just not particularly suited to my individual tastes). And I'm having a hard time getting over that he has a funny head. Are we sure he's not a robot? Has anyone checked?
But, week by week, I'm more and more sold on Amy. I love that they're dressing her like early Ace, as opposed to an intergalactic sex kitten (the kiss-o-gram stuff had me worried). I love that she's bright and can solve some of her own problems. I adore Karen Gillian's delivery of "Oh you are Mr. Grumpy Face today." And "I don’t need you to die for me, Doctor; do I look that clingy?" Oh, yes, more please.
Angels were as creepy and spooky and terrifying as before. River Song... I wasn't sure I wanted her back. The intro makes her more Bennie Summerfield than ever before, which could be good but there's something in Alex Kingston's delivery that rubs me the wrong way. And I'm hoping that the repeated mentioning of "wife" means that it's less likely to be true, rather than more, because I can't imagine the Doctor having a wife after leaving Gallifrey, unless it's in some far-distant future where he's come to terms with why he ran, what he did, and what's left of the universe. Which seems like an awfully tall order and definitely something best left to the very last episode (with the actual relationship with River taking place entirely off-screen).
But that's way more complaining that the episodes justifies. Ready for it to be next week, already!
