Belated MediaWest*Con 33 Trip Report
Jul. 7th, 2013 03:29 pmDespite my misgivings about the hotel switch, I had a great time at MW*C 33.
( Tea Time )
( The New Hotel )
( The Fun Stuff )
Even without packing the con with panels and workshops, it still seemed to fly by. Although there were a few problems with hotel, I had a great time and am eagerly looking forward to next year.

221 Sherlock Fic Recs
Nov. 4th, 2012 10:53 amI've hit a milestone in my collection of favorite Sherlock stories: 221 Sherlock Fic Recs.
All stories are gen, and typically friendship-focused adventures or character studies. My favorite genre is hurt/comfort, and I have a particular weakness for Mycroft-positive fics. If you want to skip to the best of the best, click 'top-pick'.
No death fics, but please note any warnings in my notes, as some stories do contain a lot of violence or references to rape/child abuse. Click responsibly.

Sherlock at MediaWest*Con 32
May. 21st, 2012 09:44 pmThe programming team has posted the final schedule for MW*C32. Sherlock is definitely the breakout fandom! So many great panels to choose from (gen unless otherwise denoted), plus a party:
Friday
1-2pm, Ball A, Sherlock or Sherlock? Many versions of the same character in movies and on television. Some were hits and some flopped--and some you may never have heard of.
3-4pm, Ball B, Sherlock: What We Love About the Rebooted Friendship & General Discussion of Season 2
6-7pm, Univ 3, Sherlock: Slashing Sherlock (/)
6-7pm, Ball B, Sherlock Holmes: Would Conan Doyle approve? Speculation panel on how the author would feel about the Ritchie movies and the BBC series.
Saturday
10-11am, Univ 3, Sherlock: Mycroft Holmes. He really is the British Government! (I swear I did not actually propose this topic.)
3-4pm, Univ 2, Modern Sherlock Holmes: how does it compare to the Victorian version?
7-9pm, Party Suite, Sherlock party
9-10pm, Univ 2, Sherlock: Looking ahead. Speculation and theories. What do you want to see for season three?
Sunday
10-11am, Ball A, Sherlock: general overview & discussion of Season Two.
1-2pm, Univ 1, Sherlock: the greatest friendship story ever told - with a little necking on the side (/)
2-3pm, Univ 1, Sherlock: The British Government and The Detective Inspector - celebrating the other slash pairing on Sherlock (Mycroft/Lestrade) (Clearly the programming team was being very efficient with regard to room assignments!)
3-4pm, Ball D, The Rise and Rise of Benedict Cumberbatch: Sherlock, The Hobbit, Star Trek (not to mention TTSS and War Horse). Is there anywhere he isn't?
4-5pm, Ball B, Sherlock - H/C Fanfic Recs (We're back again, baby! Bring your bookmarks!)
Thus far, the only zine I'm aware of is the Golden Pyramids zine, The Science of Deduction. Yum@'s taking pre-orders for MW*C pick-up until midnight on Wednesday (email pyramidspress [at] gmail [dot] com). The zine will be sold from the Gold'n Lily Press table in the dealer's room.

Pyramids Press and Gold'n Lily Press are teaming up to present The Science of Deduction, an anthology of gen stories based on Sherlock, BBC’s modern day re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tales. Our central theme is the strong bonds of friendship and family between the Sherlock characters, especially John and Sherlock.
The Science of Deduction features 13 stories (230 pages) from some of the fandom's finest authors. The zine is professionally printed, perfect-bound (trade paperback), 6" x 9", with beautiful full-color cover art by
myfieldnotes. Though we worked to get the look of the zine as close as possible to something you'd buy at a bookstore, it is a nonprofit, labor of love produced by fans, for fans. Like all Pyramids Press and Gold'n Lily Press zines, the stories are new (have not been previously published or appeared on the ‘net), gen (no slash or ship), and there are no deathfics. Ratings are G-R.

MediaWest Squee!
Mar. 31st, 2012 07:48 pmTime for MediaWest*Con panel sign-ups! Last year there were just a few Sherlock panels, now there are over twenty proposed! I'm having a hard time whittling down my list, a more difficult proposition this year as I have to block time to sell the zine. Skipping eating and sleeping is an obvious strategy, but that still leaves only 24 hours in a day!
myfieldnotes,
brate7,
mrwubbles and I will be hosting Sherlock gen H/C recs again. I'm definitely prioritizing "Sherlock (BBC): What we love about the rebooted friendship" and "Desert Island Fic Recs," but what else to choose? "Build the Perfect Zine"? "NCIS: Functional Mute, Brains, Guts, Muscle Wildcard, Let's discuss our characters"? There's even a dedicated Mycroft panel proposed! How am I supposed to choose?
No one's suggested a Whitechapel panel, so I will be recommending the addition. If you enjoy the series and are attending, please sign up in round two.

Sherlock S2 Fic Recs
Feb. 27th, 2012 02:43 pmThe second season of Sherlock has rekindled my passion for the fic. I've found a few favorites among the many that have been posted, including a shocking number from the meme: ( Spoilers Ahoy )

Jan. 22nd, 2012 09:02 pmI have a new obsession: Wear Sherlock BBC (Contains information related to the second season.)
Need to know what shade of lipstick a character wore? Where you can buy tea set featured on the show? How to replicate John's wardrobe? These fans have it down.
Of course, it's a dangerous obsession; I've got to spend the rest of the evening talking myself out of buying a three hundred dollar umbrella.
