Sep. 8th, 2014 01:19 amTitle: Predator
Characters: Claudius, Eibhlin, Lyme (Gen)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Violent imagery, a wee bit of foul language
Summary: Claudius doesn't know if he was born a killer or just trained to it, but he has no doubt what he is.
A/N: The ficlet is set in the chemistry 'verse, and as such cribs extensively from the work of

Fic: Reagent (The Hunger Games)
Mar. 8th, 2014 04:19 amTitle: Reagent
Characters: Brutus, Beetee, Lyme (Gen)
Rating: PG
Warnings: Extreme self-indulgence and ridiculousness
Summary: Engineers know better than most scientists the difference between theory and practice, the propensity for beautiful theories to be slain by ugly facts, and the complete inedibility of one's ideals.
A/N: I enjoy mentally playing around with the chemistry verse scenario: how can you realistically reconstruct a world as broken as post-war Panem? How do you ensure that scarce and highly localized resources are moved around so that people stay fed and warm while the economy and infrastructure are shattered, the population dangerously low, and if Gale's attitude is present in an significant portion of the population, the Rebels are deeply distrustful of even the civilian population of Two? Moonshining seemed like a good place to start. Just as I was about to email
lorataprose my musings, a devil appeared on my shoulder and whispered, 'hmm, why not just jot it down in fic format for her, for laughs.' I figured it would be a quick little scene of 'LOLLERTHREES, AREN'T THEY CUTE WHEN THEY'RE BEING ODD,' but almost immediately all kinds of feels started spilling out. Suddenly the characters were dealing with recurrent PTSD, coping with the fallout of acting on your principles, and revealing the misreading of each others' motives suggested in Where You're Needed. But somehow this story still contains snarky!Enobaria, drunken victors, and Brutus getting knee'd in the jewels. IT MIGHT BE A TAD UNEVEN. I'm not sure I'm capable of working it in to something better right now, so I'm going to leave it here, with appropriate caveats attached.

Fic: Small Packages (The Hunger Games)
Feb. 15th, 2014 04:24 amTitle: Small Packages
Characters: Brutus, Beetee (Gen)
Rating: G
Warnings: Extreme self-indulgence and ridiculousness
Summary: Travel between the districts of Panem was prohibited for more than a century. While basic aspects of the human condition are the same where ever you go, some of the nuances get lost in translation.
A/N: I was thinking about the variation in Valentine's traditions around the world on my way home tonight. Several hours later, this happened. I'm sorry, Internet. This ficlet is nothing but an excuse to barf up a bunch of my D3 headcanon and put Brutus in uncomfortable situations (please see earlier apology). This ficlet is set in the chemistry 'verse, which I'm pretty sure means I can blame it on
lorataprose. It's not my fault! And also, sorry.

Fic: Ritual (The Hunger Games)
Dec. 9th, 2013 12:27 amTitle: Ritual
Characters: Brutus, Beetee (Gen)
Rating: G
Warnings: OC, MotherHen!Brutus, and other indulgences
Summary: District Three sits much further south than Two, so on the occasion of the first snowfall after the Villages are merged, Brutus stops by to make sure all is well.
A/N: I write desperately slowly.
myfieldnotes has been encouraging me to try timed exercises, to try to up my output speed. This is my attempt at a 120 minute ficlet. It, er, actually wound up being a 210 minute ficlet, but I was still moving at a noticeably faster clip than normal and decided to just finish the thought and see where it ended up. The ficlet is set in the chemistry 'verse, and as such cribs extensively from the work of
lorataprose, particularly her story of Brutus's childhood and Games, the exquisite To Love a Beast. No actions, thoughts, or other elements of this story are binding on
lorataprose's 'verse. This wee ficlet is brought to you by
lorataprose, Swiss Miss cocoa, Sarah McLachlan's cover of Song for a Winter's Night, and the first snowfall of the season, which enchanted my afternoon.

Title: Ever in Your Favor
Characters: Brutus, Lyme (Gen)
Rating: PG
Warnings: The usual Hunger Games warnings for extreme violence to children (referenced but not explicitly depicted), plus a little bad language
Summary: “Lyme! What in the—” She chucks the ball at Brutus's head. He gets his hands up in time to catch it before she breaks his face.
Before Brutus has time to finish his question, Lyme barks out “Come with me.”
Brutus’s hands flex around the ball several times as his eyes try to bore past her defenses. Lyme waits, immovable as the mountains surrounding them, until Brutus throws the ball back.
“Lemme get my court shoes.”
