penfold_xI am terribly excited for the new season of Bones (tonight at 8 on FOX). In anticipation, I've been re-watching the first season this week.
My TopTen Eleven Favorite Moments from Season 1 (with bonus squeeage):
11. During episode 18, “The Man with the Bone”, Booth continually chases off the pervy little FBI coroner who keeps making inappropriate, sexually charged comments to Brennan. Don't be thinkin' kinky thoughts about a member of his team. In fact, when it comes to Brennan, you best not be thinkin' about her at all!
10. At the rooftop bar in L.A., Booth is kind to the distressed callgirl who wants out of the life; when the security guard goes to toss her out (because she's a known prostitute), he claims she's his sister and flashes his badge. Because he's just that chivalrous. OK, so the callgirl was also the killer. But Booth didn't know that yet! (Episode 10, “The Woman at the Airport”)
9. When Booth asks Brennan how she learned to test his instincts (like a real detective!) she says, "I learned from the best" and reaches over to pinch Booth’s cheek. (Episode 14, “The Man on the Fairway")
* Bonus squee: at the end of the episode, Brennan lets down one of her major emotional shields and asks Booth to look at her parents' casefile.
8. "The Skull in the Desert" (episode 17) is full of wonderful friendship moments between Brennan and Angela, but the best is during the closing scene when Angela tearfully confesses she believes she's missed her chance for love, and Brennan comforts her... with physics.
* Bonus squee: Booth drops everything to fly out to Arizona after Brennan asks Seely to "get Federal on his ass."
7. Booth begging his former girlfriend Rebecca to bring their son to the Jeffersonian where he is trapped due to a possibly life-threatening contamination during “The Man in the Fallout Shelter” (episode 9).
* Bonus squee: Booth hallucinating due to anti-fungal drugs, causing him to confide in Dr. Goodman that he has a son, and to lean verydrunkenly close to Brennan as he argues about theology.
6. When Brennan uses her memories of being in foster care to get the little boy who witnessed his foster brother's murder to open up to her. (Episode 5, “A Boy in the Bush”)
* Bonus squee: Brennan's answer when Booth asks how she knew he would keep her promise to ensure the brothers are kept together in the foster system: "Because you want go to Heaven."
5. Booth supports Brennen throughout “The Woman in Limbo” (episode 22), but I'm most touched by the moment when he recognizes the remains Brennan is trying to identify is actually her mother's, and immediately calls to cancel her testimony.
* Bonus squee: Booth threatening McVicker, should he attempt to hurt Brennan during their interview.
4. When Booth describes having to assassinate the general in Kosovo who had been leading ethnic cleansing raids, in front of the general's son; Booth starts to cry and Brennan tenderly puts her hand on his arm. (“The Soldier on the Grave”, episode 21)
3. Booth catches the first plane down to New Orleans as soon as he hears that she's hurt and lost her memory, going so far as to charge into her interview room to see her injuries for himself. (Episode 19 “The Man in the Morgue”)
* Bonus squee: Later, as they are examining the crime scene, he spies Brennan's earring on the ground and steals it to try to avoid suspicion falling on her, risking his career to keep her from going to jail.
* Super bonus squee for the win: "Jesus is not a zombie. I shouldn’t have to tell you that."
2. Booth threatening the gang leader who put a hit out on Brennan for physically resisting his advances. "If anything happens to her, I will kill you!" (Episode 13, “The Woman in the Garden")
1. Booth pulling himself out of his hospital bed, broken ribs and all (exploding refrigerator!) to rescue Brennan from the dirty FBI agent (Adam Baldwin!!) who tried to feed her to starving pitbulls. (Episode 15, “Two Bodies in the Lab”)
* Bonus squee: Brennan reading his medical chart and discovering Booth’s been tortured.
