Eyes: Windows on the soul, or cheap writer's aid?

OMG, stop the incessant referral to characters by their eye color. Yes, eyes can be expressive, but they're not the end-all, be-all of character interaction. If read one more story in which "blue eyes met brown" I am just going to vomit. And then take the characters' names and do a 'find and replace all' for eye references.

Depends... is it a TNG fic (golden)? Is it a Mary Sue ('her eyes were a shocking violet')?

Seriously, I've just read too many lately where it's not one or two "brown eyes locked with green in a moment of understanding," but something like 20. It's just too much.

Well, I think once in a while it's okay. So long as you don't have the eyes meeting/locking/deeping, etc., every other line. ;)
